The land of the Midnight Sun. How would you like to visit Finland in June and July, when the sun never sets in the north?  Even in the south end of Finland, you need blinds on your windows to sleep in the dark. 

The first Moomin (Muumi) character was drawn 67 years ago.  The Moomitroll (Muumipeikko) was drawn in a book in April 1945.

The Finnish flag represents "the blue of our lakes and the white snow of our winters".  It has been Finland's official flag since May 29, 1918.
 



 
Finnish children believe that Joulupukki (Santa Claus) and Joulupukin Muori (Mrs. Claus) live on a mountain called Korvatunturi in Finnish Lapland. While visiting Finland, make a point of visiting Joulupukki in Rovaniemi. It's like Florida's Disney World, the young and the old are amazed with the magic of Christmas all year round.

In 2002 there were 186,000 reindeer in Finland's Lapland...in 2009 the maximum reindeer allowed in the country is 203,777.  It is controlled by the EU.

In 2009 the UN voted Finland as the best country to live in and the second most stable country in the world! Hyvä Suomi! (The Finnish name for Finland is Suomi).

This republic became a member of the European Union in 1995. Its population is 5.3 million with the women outnumbering the men by 0.1 million.

The capital Helsinki has 561 000 residents. Finland is an advanced industrial economy: the metal, engineering and electronics industries account for about 60 % of export revenues, the forest products industry for about 20 %. Finland is one of the leading countries in Internet use. Today, there are more mobile phone than fixed network subscriptions.
